Application

Explorer Academy and SK Online Academy

Explorer provides a hybrid educational model, with most learning completed online via the Pearson platform. Optional on-campus math classes are available, and seniors may take in-person Bridge to College Math and English courses, subject to teacher discretion. For more information on "Doing School at Explorer", please click here.

Explorer Academy is a choice school within the South Kitsap School District, this means that automatic enrollment is not offered. Please see the following steps depending on your students grade level:

Grades K-5

  1. Submit a fully completed application (including immunization records if you are coming from an out-of-district school).
  2. Conduct an interview with the consulting teacher.
  3. The consulting teacher will determine your eligibility for enrollment.

Grades 6-12

  1. Submit a fully completed application (including immunization records if you are coming from an out-of-district school).
  2. Once we receive your complete application package, we will email you an orientation test. This test is designed to confirm your ability to navigate the online learning system (Pearson) and does not assess your academic knowledge. It takes approximately 2–3 hours to complete on a computer. Be sure to set aside enough time, read each question carefully, and take notes as needed. Note that you cannot return to a previous question once you move forward. Your application will only be considered if you achieve a score of 80% or higher on the test. If you don’t pass on your first attempt, you will be given a second opportunity.
  3. Once you successfully pass the orientation test, an interview will be scheduled between the family and the consulting teacher.
  4. The consulting teacher will then determine your eligibility for enrollment.

Administration of medication at school

State law dictates that all medications (prescription and OTC) require a physician's signature. Please complete Form 157 for Medication at School, ensuring that the first section is filled out by your student's physician. Once completed, submit it to the School Nurse or Health Room/Office for each medication that needs to be administered. Additionally, all medications must be properly labeled.
