Severe Weather Shelters
From November 1 through March 31, shelters are open during severe winter weather conditions: temp 32 degrees or lower for at least 6 hours, or rain/snow expected to accumulate at least 1” in 24 hours. Shelters open each night, from 6 pm until 7 am. Kitsap Transit busses are now running red alerts when shelters are open, where each bus’s destination is displayed.

Military One Source is a U.S. Department of Defense program that provides resources and support to active-duty, National Guard and Reserve service members and their families anywhere in the world. The program is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week at no cost to users. South Kitsap Helpline Food Bank, 360-876-4089, at 1402 Bay Street, is open Monday through Friday 10:30 am to 3:30 pm.
Life Care Food Bank,360-876-9244, serves families living south of Sedgwick Road. Life Care is downstairs at Spirit of Life Lutheran Church, 3901 SE Mullenix Road, open Saturday’s 9 am to 1 pm.
Both food banks require photo identification and proof of residency, such as a utility bill or rental agreement.

Care Kitchen at Christian Life Center, 1780 SE Lincoln Avenue: Wednesday’s, 5-6 pm (not available Christmas Day or New Year’s Day)
South Kitsap Family Kitchen is at 1 st Lutheran Community Church, 2483 Mitchell Road, last two weeks of each month - Monday’s, Tuesday’s, Thursday’s and Friday’s, 5-6:30 pm (closed 12/24-12/26)
